MIDLAND, Texas (Big 2/Fox 24) – Midland Police arrested an axe-wielding suspect last week.

According to a release, officers encountered the man on Friday night in the area of Midkiff and Loop 250. Officers were told the man was chopping at signal lights and utility poles in the area.

When they located the man, he was reportedly holding the axe over his should and ignored multiple commands from police to drop it.

MPD says officers fired high-density foam rounds at the man who eventually dropped the axe and went to the ground.

While taking the man into custody, police say he resisted the officers and tried to escape.

He was later taken to a local hospital and was treated and released.

Police say he has been charged with burglary of a habitation, assault on a public servant and escape from custody.
