MIDLAND, Texas (BIG2/FOX24) – The Midland Fire Department hosted its annual Wet N Wild event Tuesday, officially kicking-off of Midland’s 2019 Wellness Tour.
This 5th annual event is back bigger than ever, whipping Midland residents into shape one healthy habit at a time.
“It’s all about health, and getting active, and getting out into the community,” said Midland Health’s Community Relations Coordinator, Clarissa Toll. “The idea came from this ‘passion’ of Midland Health to make Midland the healthiest city in Texas.”
All week long, participating gyms, eateries, community clinics, and other entities around town will be providing discounts and services to promote physical and mental well-being. Midland Health, Midland College, City of Midland, and Midland Independent School District will be joining forces to provide a jam-packed itinerary of family-friendly fun.
“The kids are having a great time,” explained one Midland resident, Shannon Russell. “You hear a lot of hollering and screaming as they’re going down the slide. You want your family to be healthy, you want them to live a long, healthy life, so I think it’s very very important.”
For Midland Fire Department’s Chief, Aaron Cox, he says this annual event is something they can get behind.
“You know, we put out fires…They’re infrequent, right? But this is really where we make a difference. Basically educating the children on a healthy life style, being a good role model, and talking to them about just stuff in general – healthy habits.”
