MIDLAND,Texas ( ABC Big 2 / FOX 24) – A Midland family is mourning after their loved one was killed in a car accident.

Michael Lozoya’s family said his bright personality always light up the room but that light was cut short after a tragic car crash late Thursday night. Michael’s sister Samantha Lozoya said she’ll never forget when she heard what happened.

“I had gotten a call before the cops had even arrived there..so it was just pretty tragic just hearing all the screaming telling us just to hurry up and make it there because he was under a truck,” Lozoya said. “It’s just something that I never thought I would hear.”

According to Texas DPS, the 22-year-old was driving down South County Road 1200 in Midland County when he hit a utility pole. Lozoya was also not wearing a seatbelt, Michael’s mother Christina Scott said he was her best friend and is devastated to lose him.

“I wish I would have gotten to say goodbye to him last night because he was always the one who would tell me I love you mom.. goodbye, and I would always tell him be careful, I love you I’ll see you later and yesterday I didn’t say it, Scott said.

Family and friends have been supporting one another, they believe staying together is keeping Michael’s memory alive.

“We’re just keeping everyone united because Michael loved being around his friends, Scott said.”

The Lozoya family will be holding a car wash on Saturday, April 17th to help raise money for funeral expensese. The car wash will start at 9.A.M in Super Mercado parking lot located at 2208 N. Big Spring St. in Midland.
