UPDATE: After a recount, the MISD bond has failed by 26 votes. County officials say the total, “could be off by one vote.”
MIDLAND, Texas (Big 2/Fox 24) – Friday could mark the final decision for the Midland ISD school bond that was on the November ballot.
At the Commissioner’s Court, the missing ballots will be added to the total from the recount.
If it turns out the 836 ballots found matches the results from election night, the bond’s fate will have flipped three times.
Last Friday, a judge ordered these ballots to be counted. While “We Choose Our Future” has been pushing for this path, “Better Bond for Midland” wants a whole new election.
It was originally reported that the bond passed on November 5th, then the next morning Midland County posted cumulative results showing the bond had failed. Since the margins were so tight, “We Choose Our Future” ordered a recount – which then resulted in the 820 vote discrepancy.
The missing votes in the “mystery box” were found during a count of the early voting totals from the Midland County Annex back on December 16th.
Now, 63 days after the election night, this fiasco could be coming to a close.
