MIDLAND, Texas (Big 2/Fox 24) – The Midland Chamber of Commerce announced in a news release Tuesday that they will be canceling the 2020 Star-Spangled Salute.
The Chamber said in the release, COVID-19 was a factor in the decision but the current economic climate was a much larger factor.
Chamber President and CEO Bobby Burns said in the release, “Our local business community has always been extremely generous and supportive of this event. With the current economic climate, we simply could not burden our local businesses with an additional ‘ask’ on their already strained financial resources. It is far more important that they focus on adapting their business models and taking care of their employees. Our staff is focused on providing resources and support to help our business community navigate these difficult circumstances.”
All of the festivities will be canceled, including the Children’s Parade.
