ODESSA, Texas (Big 2/Fox 24) – Medical Center Hospital and Odessa Regional Medical Center will provide another Coronavirus update Thursday afternoon.
The update will come as cases and hospitalizations are surging in the Permian Basin. Local health officials have gone as far to say that the current spike is worse than the one they experienced earlier this year because it is much more wide-spread.
As of Wednesday, MCH has 66 COVID-19 patients in house.
Hospital officials even joined Ector County ISD Superintendent Dr. Scott Mrui on Wednesday to announce they would be pausing their phase-in process at the district due to the rapidly rising Coronavirus numbers.
Mayor David Turner was also joined by Midland Mayor Patrick Payton earlier this week in a plea to the community to wear masks, practice social distancing and other preventative measures.
Both stopped short of additional restrictions and on enforcing Gov. Greg Abbott’s mask mandate.
As of Thursday afternoon, Ector County has reported 4,625 confirmed cases and 3,179 probable cases for a total of 7,804.
