Man killed in Lea County crash

LEA COUNTY, New Mexico (Big 2/Fox 24) – A 21-year-old man from Mexico was killed and another man was injured following a crash is Lea County earlier this week, according to the New Mexico State Police.

Officers were called to the crash around 7:27 p.m. Monday on Highway 132, just north of Hobbs.

While investigating, officers learned the driver of a Ford Explorer was headed west on Highway 132 and left the roadway, according to a release. NMSP say the driver, who has not been identified, was airlifted to Lubbock for treatment.

A passenger in the crash, Jesus Jose Hermosillo Flores, of Chihuahua, Mexico, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, the report reads.

NMSP officials say alcohol and tire failure appear to be factors in the crash and seat belts “do not appear” to have been properly used.

The crash is still under investigation.
