MIDLAND, TEXAS (Big 2/ Fox 24)- After practicing in Texas, Washington, and New Mexico O. Machelle Morris has decided to come back home and run for District Attorney.
“Midland County is my home, I grew up here, these are my people when I think about any place in the world that I’m called to serve it’s the people of Midland County.”
When asked what makes her the best candidate even with an incumbent in the race she says it’s a “difference in philosophy, my main goal and focus will be to narrow that authority back down to what the statutes and the constitution require the office to do.”
According to Morris, practicing in three different States has given her a different perspective.
“Several years in New Mexico working in their system where some crimes like abuse and neglect of children where it’s handled in a Civil Court but the pursued to Criminal Law and I’ve provided defense on those kinds of cases. I am a qualified Texas Arbitrator Negotiator Mediator so I certainly have experience negotiating.”
The District Attorney’s Office in Midland is one of the largest Law Firms located in the CountY; Morris says with her experience she can get it to run like one.
“We can do that through efficiency and effectiveness and we can do it with honor and dignity and respect for all citizens across the board whether they’re accused of crimes, whether they’re victims of crimes or whether they’re citizens who are paying for the system to work.”
