AUSTIN, Texas (Big 2/Fox 24) – As conversations continue across the country to defund police departments, State. Rep. Brooks Landgraf is backing a pledge to support law enforcement.
Landgraf joined Gov. Greg Abbott in signing the “Texas Backs the Blue Pledge” that opposes defunding Texas police departments.
Gov. Abbott has taken a stance against the national conversation regarding police and has been vocal in supporting law enforcement when the City of Austin made significant cuts to the city’s police department budget.
Since the cut, Abbott has considered bringing the Austin Police Department under state control.
“The man and women who risk everything to protect and serve deserve our respect and gratitude,” Landgraf said in a statement. “It is without hesitation that I pledge to oppose any attempt to defund law enforcement in Texas. If adequate resources are not provided to enforce the rule of law in Texas, not only will people’s lives be in danger, but the government will have failed to fulfill one of its most basic responsibilities. I’m thankful for Governor Abbott’s leadership on this important issue.”
