ODESSA, TX(Big 2/ Fox 24) – Since the cost of living in the Permian Basin is known to be extremely high, Jesus House of Odessa wants to provide affordable housing to those in great need.
Donny Kyker, director of Jesus House of Odessa, says the plans for building the homes will finally come.
“I’m totally relieved that this day is finally here,” says Kyker. “I’ll be more relieved when we finally move the first family.”
This open land will soon become home for those in great need, especially for single mothers.
“Women have to live in ungodly situations,” he says. “They’re living in homes that they feel unsafe in, and they don’t want their children living on the streets we’re really targeting them.”
Many local businesses are teaming up with Jesus House and making a great change in the community.
“We get the oil out of the ground our services we offer to the oil companies we make money on that and in return we give back to the community.,” says Cody Gill, COO of Stealth Oilwell Services. “I think we should just all oil companies should get together donate and help the homeless help the mothers in need help the addicts that’s trying to come off on what they’re going through.
The first of five homes will soon be built across from the Jesus House facility, and Jesus House says it’s going to be a safe and environmentally friendly development.
“We’re in discussions of possibly if we have enough funds to be able to do a solar power home,” Beau Benham, owner of B&T Unlimited LLC. “Not only will help pay the bills and be cheaper on the cost people that are in the homes but ultimately be a better house for the environment.”
Kyker says he has seen a great need for affordable homes and is excited that this partnership will soon offer real solutions within the community.
“If you’re not part of the solution, you’re part of the pollution, ” says Kyker. “There’s such a need out there what a blessing it could be when you get a woman or a mom with her children, and they stay here to save some money accumulate some money in a very quick amount of time our rent is going to be ridiculously cheap because we have sponsors.
