ODESSA, Texas (Big 2/ Fox 24) – There’s a desperate need for jailers in Ector County so the Sheriff’s office took action.
Sheriff Mike Griffis hopes Ector County commissioners will put a plan in place for the jailer-sign-on bonus promotion program. Since the office is in desperate need of jailers.
“They’ll get a monthly stipend and there will be more savings in to the county,” Sheriff Mike Griffis says. “Ultimately we need around 30 people right now and we’re short.”
The reason for such a shortage – oilfield jobs.
“Competing with the oil field,” Sheriff Griffis says. “We’re trying to figure out to have people to come and work for us.
While nothing was decided in the meeting, Griffis says the county needs to act fast.
