MIDLAND, TX (Big 2/Fox24)- Centers for Children and Families announced a new book club featuring Taya Kyle. Kristi Edwards and Melanie Saiz talked with us about the club. “We often talk about the importance of “trying new things” in order to create a space for joy,” Edwards says. “We figured joining a book club sounded like a great new thing to try!”

Their first book is titled “American Spirit” by celebrity author Taya Kyle. Kyle is the widow of “American Sniper” Chris Kyle and a New York Times best-selling author of “American Wife”. “The book is an inspiring collection of stories that showcase the resilience of the American spirit.” Saiz says.

“With the changes brought on by the pandemic, our world has learned so much about having to adapt to difficult times,” says Saiz. This book is about overcoming those difficult times.”

“What we’re trying to do is help people find their bounce back, right, how many days does it take for you to bounce back, you know, from true adversity or a death or disappointment,” Edwards says. So that’s kind of what we’re hoping that we’re gonna be able to do with this book club is talk to people about finding that bounce back, finding your emotional resiliency, being able to do the gut check thing and bring that out so we’re hoping that having a chance to get together and read a book about overcoming challenges will help create some hope and connection, even if it is on Zoom.”

The book club will meet virtually and will include a conversation with Taya Kyle about her book on March 30. You can join the club by going to their Facebook page or contacting them directly for a link to the Zoom event.
