Holiday traveling tips

Local News

MIDLAND, Texas (BIG2/FOX24) – With the holiday season rolling up, you might be thinking about the bags you’re rolling in… To the airport.

Director of Airports Justine Ruff says they’re getting ready for the increase of travelers for the holidays.

“Well there’ll be a lot more people coming through the airport that’s for sure…”

One of the biggest causes for worry is time.

“Just allow a lot of extra time,” Ruff advises. “You don’t want to be rushed going through security because it just ruins everything for everybody.”

Ruff says arriving at the airport 90 minutes before your departure is a safe bet.

“If you are traveling with your whole family, have the driver drop everyone off in front of the curb, and then go park the vehicle if that’s easier than having everyone walk in.”

As there’s overflow parking at the airport with the busy season, if you do park a vehicle, be sure to remember where.
To make sure you’re in top-top shape for your travels, you can download your airline’s app to get constant updates.

“The airlines are pretty good about reaching out,” Ruff says. “They’ll text if there’s going to be a delay.”

If you’re trying to bring surprises along, Ruff says to finish them up after you land.

“If you’re traveling with gifts, cause it’s that time of year, don’t put wrapped gifts in your hand. They can be unwrapped by the TSA if they can’t see them clearly in the X-Ray.”

We hope these tips help you land at ease this holiday season.
