MIDLAND, TX (Big 2/ Fox 24) – Midland County Commissioners will name a highway after late Midland Police Officer Nathan Heidelberg. Officer Heidelberg was killed in March of 2019.
“His family travels quite regularly so that particular route was chosen,” says Terry Johnson, Midland County Judge. “So they can see that the community is honoring their son.”
Johnson says the County Commissioners are honored to be able to support local law enforcement, and with this memorial, it will show their appreciation.
“It’s a memorial, it’s a way of not letting his sacrifice go unmentioned or unremembered,” Johnson says. “It’s the least we as a community can do. These folks to include Nathan our their life on the line for us literally every day.”
The memorial is planned near Heidelberg’s burial site in Greenwood and the Midland Police Department’s firing range.
“Midland is a unique place to live, we’re great people here we don’t forget our heroes Nathan being one of them,” says Johnson. “This roadway, the naming of this roadway, will memorialize that forwarding to the future for the next generation to be able to memorialize those who put their life on the line.”
This project will be funded by private donations.
