Florists prepare for a busy Valentine’s Day

Local News

ODESSA, TEXAS (Big 2/ Fox 24)- Valentine’s Day may be just one day a year for us but Florists have been getting ready for the holiday for months.

“It gets to my heart whenever people or men don’t care how much they spend and that shows me how much love they have for their wives or their girlfriends,” says the Owner of Jazmine’s Fashion and Flower Shop Yvonne Roman.

She says between ordering all of the flowers from their supplier, taking and arranging orders and then delivering them it’s all hands on deck and a good chunk of their yearly revenue comes from that one day.

“I myself have delivered before and it’s just amazing you know just to see how happy some of them get. They wanna cry and it’s fulfilling to know that you just did something nice for them from their loved one.”

Just how much do American’s spend on Valentine’s Day?

The National Retail Federation expects them to spend around $27-billion; that’s 32% more than last year. A number that doesn’t surprise Roman at all.

“Five hundred dollars, yes, a guy came in and he bought a big teddy bear, he bought stuff for his kids and then arrangements as well flower arrangements, and I was like ‘wow!’ Once a year $200, $300 is nothing compared to everything that they share with each other and how much they love each other.”
