PECOS, TEXAS (Big 2/ Fox 24)- If you look outside the Reeves County Detention Center the grounds look well kept, but, within the walls of the Detention Center, one inmate says it’s a whole different story.
“It hurts that my brother is having to go through this I didn’t ever think that he would ever have to be under these living conditions. He calls and he says that they haven’t had running water for two days. People are going to the restroom and the toilets and the toilets are full of feces,” says Sophia Xochil, the inmate’s sisters.
She adds that she knew something was up this past Sunday when she noticed rat droppings near the vending machine during her visit but she never imagined it could get this bad.
“Me as his sister I noticed he wasn’t comfortable there I just didn’t ask him like ‘hey what’s wrong are you okay’ I just never really asked him.”
During the call, Xochitl says he said something else that made her worry “he said I might get my phone calls or my T.V. privileges taken away from me because I’m telling you this right now.”
The Reeves County Sheriffs Department is unable to comment because the Jail is privately funded, The Jail is pointing their finger at their private owner GEO Group who is not responding to our request for comment.
In the meantime, Xochil says she is wasting no time speaking with the Bureau of Prisons to try and get her brother transferred.
“I asked him if I could write to the BOP in Dallas so that he could get transferred over because I just don’t want him living under these conditions you know.”
