MIDLAND, Texas (Big 2/Fox 24) – Family and friends of Nathan Heidelberg wanted a plan to honor him for his birthday.
So they met in Abilene and decided to release balloons to remember the fallen officer. The crowd included Heidelberg’s family and fellow officers.
As you may recall, Officer Heidelberg was shot and killed in the line of duty back in March.
Officials say he was responding to a home in Midland about an alarm call. Heidelberg reportedly announced himself but was shot and killed by the homeowner, prior reports indicate.
The homeowner, according to previous reports, believed someone was breaking into his home.
Heidelberg was laid to rest surrounded by family, friends and law enforcement officials from across the country in March.
