Ector County library in need of renovations

ODESSA, Texas (ABC Big 2 / Fox 24) – Known for being a happy place for many bookworms but the happiness is being driven away by a smell.

Ector County Library was once a jail that transformed into library on August 19,1983 and since then has not been rennovated and its starting to show and smell like it.

“Its really gross it really smells like when you are driving on the highway and a skunk has died,” says Elaine Tveite, a librarian at Ector Couty Library

While some librarians say the smell is distracting others like Amanda Stewart have gotten used to it.

“It’s kind of frustrating I don’t like having to smell it all day luckily I go nose blind thanks to the mask but it would be nice to have a place that people feel more comfortable,” says Stewart.

J’Nevelyn White, managing liberian of adult services at Ector Couty Library says this smell is driving potential library patrons away.

“A lot of times people just turn around and we don’t know how many people turn around because we cant see the foyer but we get stories all the time,” says White.
