ODESSA, Texas (Big 2/Fox 24) – Ector County ISD is asking for feedback from parents and students on how they handled the Spring semester, which was disrupted by COVID-19, as well as proposed calendar changes.
District officials say the proposed changes to the calendar are meant to address the possibility of students being behind when they return to class in the Fall.
As you may recall, local districts closed campuses during the Coronavirus outbreak. However, learning continued with an online platform.
Some of the proposed changes include:
- Increasing the number of instructional days from 169 to 180
- School year will begin three days earlier (Aug. 12)
- Virtual instruction days
- Bad weather/COVID-19 days for anticipated times when a school or all schools may closed due to the virus’ impact.
- An extended year schedule for June and July for students who need additional help.
Parents and students can take the survey until June 5. The survey can be found here.
In the second survey, ECISD will attempt to learn more about how students fared during the last ten weeks of the Spring semester.
Some of the topics they will seek insight on include the availability of computers and other devices, adult support, mental and physical well-being and any other barriers they faced in their remote learning experience.
District officials say the survey will be emailed to students in grades 3-12.
