ODESSA, TX (Big 2/ Fox 24) – A local church group wanted to make Thanksgiving a particular time for the seniors at Landmark Apartments.
This year marks the sixth year of the Odessa Spanish Adventist Church group feeding the seniors at the Landmark Apartments.
Elizabeth Baeza, a member of the church, says the church has been feeding the seniors during the holidays for years.
“We saw the need for some of these people,” Baeza says.
The Odessa Spanish Adventist church has made early thanksgiving dinners for the group– for 6 years now…
“Some of their families don’t live close by some of them,” she says. “So it just gives us the joy to be able to provide this meal for them, and it’s just not about the meal we spend time with them.”
Many residents commented on how thankful to have the church to set a big Thanksgiving dinner.
“It’s so nice for them to host this event every year,” Eugene Edwards, a Landmark resident, says. “It’s really kind of them, and we’re enjoying the meal.”
Many feel grateful to not only chow down the meal but the company.
“We all want to thank them for everything they’ve done for us,” Robin Collins, a Landmark resident says. “Sometimes this is the only meal that people get for Thanksgiving in here there are a lot of elderly and disables people, and this means a lot to all of us.”
Many say it’s never too early to have a thanksgiving dinner, especially since it’s a time for giving.
“We all eat together and talk to one another,” Charlotte Ray, a Landmark resident, says. “So it has really been a blessing to meet some of them, and it’s just a big family.”
