ODESSA, Texas (ABC Big 2 / FOX 24) – Two accidents on I-20 left many drivers stuck in traffic for hours on Monday.
Texas DPS says two people were killed near FM-1788 in Midland after a vehicle slammed into the back of a semi-truck. The other accident happened near Grandview in Odessa. Both crashes put traffic at standstill.
Drivers like Michelle East was stuck in traffic on I-20 heading eastbound for hours.
” I was coming east from Van Horn and coming in to Odessa, I got caught up in a traffic jam,” East said . “We were sitting still quite a bit then we moved just a little bit.”
With crashes happening frequently on I-20 including the one at the Crane overpass almost a month ago, drivers think more needs to be done to keep the interstate safe.
“There’s not enough lanes for all of the drivers,” said Randi Corgill. ” There are too many people here that come in from out of state and I think our roads are just not equipped.”
But other than fixing the roads drivers also say it’s up to each other to prevent deadly accidents.
“Pay attention to what you are doing, do not play with the radio or look at your phone.” East said. ” You have to be watching all the time because you never know if come up a slow semi you’re going to run into the back.”
TxDot is also urging driver to stay the speed limit on I-20, that’s 65 MPH.
