MIDLAND, Texas (YourBasin) – Teen FLOW Ministries is offering an extended program for students at Midland ISD by providing a workspace opportunity for safe and encouraging virtual learning.
According to Teen FLOW officials, 36 students, ranging from 7th to 12th graders, are part of the program. Officials say they have room for about 15 more students.
“We’re just trying to give the student normality. We’re trying to give them some structure and we’re trying to prepare them for success,” said Kile Grady, the Praise and Worship Director. “We don’t want to see them fall behind in school or academically and we don’t want to see them fall behind spiritually either.”
Jamya Thompson, a student who has been involved with the program for almost 4 years, says the program has been very helpful for her and other students who are involved.
“If we were at home we wouldn’t have the help,” said Thompson. “Parents too busy with brothers and sisters and other stuff.”
The day starts early for students with Teen FLOW with pick-ups beginning at 8:30.
Teen FLOW provides breakfast and lunch is provided for students but in between the two meals, the ministry provides praise and worship, bible study, and games.
After lunch students will spend three hours for virtual learning.
“I think being in isolation for so long had a toll on some of their mental health. So we’re glad to bring them in and get them so interaction again,” says Grady.
And for Thompson, she says it’s been helpful for her and allows her to help others.
“They’ll be helping out other people. It’s been good,” says Thompson. “Yesterday, there was a lot of kids, but they also needed help so it feels good to be here to help them.”
As the coronavirus outbreak continues, Teen FLOW has put in guidelines in place for students.
- Recommending students wear face coverings
- During meals, students are served disposable dinnerware
- Anyone with a temperature above 99.5 will not be allowed to attend Teen FLOW events
