ECTOR COUNTY (YourBasin) – Ector County Commissioners are taking an initiative in making the roads safer in the Basin. A new policy will be implemented for drivers with a CDL licenses. Drivers will have to sign a consent form that will allow employers to look up the drivers history of alcohol or drug abuse.
“I think it’s a positive thing. We all want to be safe when we are out there on the highways and all you have to do is listen to the news every day and you know how many accidents have occur just in the Permian Basin alone. If you imagine the entire United States, if this is implemented throughout, then it should make it safer for everyone,” says Patricia Patton, Ector County Human Resources Director.
“It’s a no-brainer. It was easy to approve once you fully understand the ramifications of what we are getting for a buck twenty-five,” says Commissioner Eddy Shelton
Shelton says the money will come out of the general fund. Shelton and Patton say that the gears are in motion implementing the new policy right away.
