ODESSA, TX (Big 2/ Fox 24) – Many people begin to prep those turkeys for thanksgiving, and one Odessa man and his team will be doing the same for hundreds of people.
For the last five years, Curbside Bistro has been serving Thanksgiving dinner for the community.
Alejandro Barrientos, owner, and chef of Curbside Bistro, says his inspiration for beginning to traditionally serve the community during this time of the year all began with a moment he experienced before launching his own business.
“As a chef, I kind of witnessed something that was kind of the same time around Thanksgiving, and the place that we were working was like a really fine dining restaurant,” Barrientos says. “A family comes in it’s a man and his son they come in and ask if there’s going to be any Thanksgiving sandwiches. “The chef returns and says no, not this year it’s a little slow we’re not going to do it this year.”
During that moment, that’s when Barrientos made a promise to himself to use his gift to feed the community regardless of anyone’s circumstances.
“So that day, I made a promise to God,” he says. “If I was ever able to have a restaurant or a food truck, I’ll feed the community.”
This year the restaurant will prepare 32 turkeys, and the restaurant expects to feed at least 350 people.
Curbside says people from the community have also donated lots of turkeys, hams, desserts and all other kinds of foods to prepare.
“This is for our community for everybody that comes into our community,” he says. “You don’t only have to just live here and be brought up here; you’re part of our community.”
Curbside Bistro will have its doors open to everyone tomorrow for a Thanksgiving meal from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
