CRANE,Texas ( ABC Big 2 / FOX 24) – A local neighborhood is on edge after a string of burglaries.
People living along South Elizabeth St. in Crane said there have been many burglaries happening these few months. One homeowner tells ABC Big 2 News about $2,000 worth of tools were stolen from his home.
Curtis Nost has been living along South Elizabeth St. for the past six years. Nost said he’s never had any problems in this neighborhood but that changed after he was away from his home over the Easter weekend. Nost got a call from a neighbor telling him something was wrong.
“He came to the house on Monday and saw the door and it was just laying up against the building,” Nost said.
Nost said someone broke into his shed behind his home and stole valuable tools. One of the stolen items was an antique chainsaw left to him by his late grandfather.
“One of the items they took was valuable it was something I was given by my grandfather,” Nost said. ” It hurts to say it but if they can just return it all.”
And Nost is not alone. According to Crane Police there’s been three burglaries in the neighborhood since last Friday.
John Cavazos lives across the street from Nost, he said these burglaries have his neighborhood on guard.
“I try to be weary of things that are happening, I come out at night before I got to bed to see if I see anything or if I hear anything at night,” Cavazos said ” But we just try to watch out for eachother most of the time.”
Other neighbors like Epifanio Montoya has some words for those who are responsible.
“Let’s get you a job, because that’s ridiculous, stealing from people,” Montoya said. ” They work hard for what they got and they come up here and steal, that’s nonsense.”
As for Nost, he hopes these burglaries will stop soon.
“When is enough enough? When is this neighborhood going to be peaceful and everybody is going to respect each other,” Nost said. “If you need help with money or something let somebody know, this town is all out to help.”
