ODESSA, Texas (Nexstar) – The community is rallying around a local family in need and now you can get involved.

Community members are planning daddy-daughter dances in June to support the Mungia’s.

Last week, we brought you the story of Marlee Mungia. Marlee and her family had their lives turned upside down in January when she was diagnosed with neuroblastoma.

Since then, her father Mason and mother Lani have been back and fourth to Fort Worth with Marlee seeking treatment for her illness.

The inspiring story of bravery and perseverance has prompted quite the response from the community.

A Facebook group, “Marlee Strong” formed with thousands sending well wishes and offering support. A GoFundMe page has also been set up for the family and has raised nearly $26,000 dollars to date.

Now, organizers are inviting dads and daughters to join them for a memorable evening at the Copper Rose Building in support of the family.

Dances are scheduled for June 12 and are separated into two age groups. Newborns through 12-year-olds will have the dance floor with their fathers from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. and girls 12 and up will take the floor with their dads from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

The princess-themed dance will feature pictures, music by DJ Hambone, a silent auction, dinner and a special guest appearance from Marlee and Mason who will share a dance via zoom. Other donations will also be accepted.

Tickets will be $20 per person and will be available for purchase next week.
