City of Big Spring announces recall election information

Local News

BIG SPRING, Texas (Big 2/Fox 24) – Officials with the City of Big Spring have announced information regarding the recall election.

The election will take place on Nov. 3 and will allow voters to decide if two city council members and the mayor can be recalled from office.

If voters choose to remove those Council members and the mayor, it would be effective upon the final canvass of the votes and when the City Council certifies the election results.

As for Mayor Shannon Thomason, if removed, a special election would be called to fill the unexpired term. Thomason’s term is set to run through May 2022.

District 5 councilwoman Camilla Strande’s term runs through May of 2022 and would also require a special election to fill the vacancy if she is recalled in November.

Meanwhile, Councilman Jim DePauw’s term runs through 2021 and, if removed from office, the City Council would appoint a successor to fill the vacancy, except if there is an additional vacancy on the City Council at the same time, in which case a special election would be called to fill the position.
