MIDLAND, Texas (Big 2/Fox 24) – Earlier this week, Mayoral candidate Jenny Cudd released tax documents that stated the Midland Development Corporation was working to strike a deal with a private company to bring a hotel to downtown.
The documents show the deal would have cost $19.5 million, which would have fallen to taxpayers without their consent.
We reached out to the City of Midland, as well as the Midland Development Corporation on Wednesday afternoon. Both entities declined to comment on the hotel.
However, current Mayor Jerry Morales spoke with us Thursday and clarified specific details about those documents.
Mayor Morales emphasized the documents released by Cudd were that of a proposal and not a completed deal with the private hotel group.
Currently, there is no contract with the hotel group and the plan was merely a worksheet, which served as a reference for the MDC and city officials.
