Local News

ODESSA, Texas (Big 2/Fox 24) – As businesses close their doors and oil prices tank, many West Texans are finding themselves without work and are turning to unemployment benefits to help get them by.

Unfortunately, as thousands of people flood the website everyday, Workforce Solutions is trying their best to monitor web traffic and give applicants the best information for how and when they should apply.

According to the website, the best time to apply for unemployment online is between the hours of 10 PM to 8 AM.

If you need to apply for unemployment benefits please call 1-800-467-9989 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. CST.

Over 10 million Americans applied for unemployment in March because of the Coronavirus outbreak and many are still struggling to apply. Workforce Solutions is hoping to eliminate some of that stress with their online tutorials for those in the Permian Basin.

You may file online at  www.texasworkforce.org. When you get to the website, you can look at more resources on when to apply based on where you live and how to start your application.

Before starting your application make sure you have the following handy to make the process go faster: your last employer’s name, address, and phone number, your most recent employment dates, the number of hours you worked, your pay rate, and your registration number if you are not a U.S. Citizen.

“If you do not have access to a telephone or the internet you may visit our center to utilize our resources.”
