ALPINE, Texas (Big 2/Fox 24) – The City of Alpine officially welcomed their new police chief last week.

On Nov. 6, the Alpine City Council appointed Robert Martin as the new Chief of Police following the retirement of Chief Russel Scown.

Martin, according to APD, is no stranger to Brewster County or West Texas. As an Alpine High School graduate, Martin attended the Odessa College Law Enforcement Academy and began his service with the Ector County Sheriff’s Office.

Eventually, Martin would leave Ector County and joined the Katy Police Department before retiring in 2017, a release reads.

After his retirement, Martin and his family moved to Alpine. The tenured law man would then join up with the Brewster County Sheriff’s Office and will now take the helm in Alpine.
