(Big 2/Fox 24) – Gas prices are up from last week as Texans approach Memorial Day weekend.
According to the AAA Texas Weekend Gas Watch, the average price in the state is $1.60, accounting for a six-cent increase from last week. However, stats from AAA note that the average price is also 97 cents lower than the same day last year.
Drivers in Midland are still paying the most on average at the pump at $1.76, according to AAA Texas.
Despite the slight increase, AAA Texas officials say COVID-19 is still have in impact on the market.
“Even with a holiday weekend just ahead, COVID-19 continues to create demand destruction around the state and country,” AAA Texas spokesman Danial Armbruster said in a statement. “Drivers can expect pump prices to push slightly higher in the days ahead due to rising gasoline demand as some states are lifting stay-at-home restrictions and crude oil prices increase.”
