75 new active COVID-19 cases confirmed in Big Spring, two new virus-related deaths

BIG SPRING, Texas (Big 2/Fox 24) – 75 new active Coronavirus cases have been confirmed in Howard County, according to an update Friday.

Officials in Howard County say the active case count has jumped from 53 to 128 and the number of recovered patients has also risen to 249. In total, officials say 119 new cases were confirmed this week.

Two new virus-related deaths have also been confirmed in Howard County.

Officials say a 66-year-old man and a 59-year-old man died this week, representing the 11th and 12th virus-related deaths in the county.

County officials attribute the increase to an outbreak at the federal prison facility in Big Spring and say more are anticipated in the coming days.

Additionally, County officials have notified various businesses to limit their capacity to 50 percent due to the increase, per the Governor’s orders.

In total, 403 cases have been confirmed in Howard County.
