MIDLAND, Texas (Big 2/Fox 24) – The City of Midland has confirmed 72 new COVID-19 cases in the county. This brings the total to 1266. There was also one new reported death in the county.
The patient, a female in her 80s, was being treated at Midland Memorial Hospital. The patient passed away on July 14, 2020. This was the 22nd death in the county.
The Basin has seen a spike in cases the last two weeks. Hospitals in Ector County are concerned about staff running out of steam treat patients.
The latest numbers continue to show the Permian Basin as a hot zone, with more than 10% of tests coming back positive.
Governor Greg Abbott stopped the reopening of Texas and has issued a mask mandate and has threatened moving back to a closed economy.
