ODESSA, Texas (Big 2/Fox 24) – 43 new COVID-19 cases were reported Monday by the Ector County Health Department keeping in-line with the downward trend overall in the county.
Stats show 2561 confirmed cases and 1253 probable cases for a total of 3814 cases in the County. Additionally, stats show 733 active cases and 228 tests pending.
3021 have recovered from the virus. Dr. Timothy Benton says the numbers remain encouraging as case numbers continue to level off.
However, at least four deaths have been reported since Saturday, bringing the county total to 60. Additionally, Medical Center Hospital has shown a slight increase in hospitalization since Friday. CEO Russell Tippin noted that about 30 percent of their in-house patients were from other counties.
Ector County data shows there are currently 34 COVID-19 hospitalizations, 14 of which are in the Intensive Care Unity and at least nine of those are on ventilators.
The positivity rate also climbed last week. At the end of July, the positivity rate was trending towards 20 percent but had decreased slightly to 17 percent the following week, data shows. As of last week, the positivity rate had risen again to 18 percent.
Dr. Benton also provided an update on a local nursing home that is reporting several active cases.
According to Dr. Benton, Deerings Nursing and Rehabilitation is currently reporting 58 active cases among staff and residents. 60 cases in total have been reported at the nursing home. Benton went on to say that 52 of the cases are among residents and eight are staff.
The doctor says they are working closely with the health department on ‘infection control measures’ at the facility.
