ODESSA, Texas (Nexstar) – Police are releasing new details on a fatal shooting in Odessa.
OPD said in a press release, just after 8 P.M. on Sunday, officers responded to a shots fired call at the Sedona Ranch Apartments on Brownstone Road. Police say 22-year-old Joshua Holbert was found dead with multiple gunshot wounds. A 16-year-old suspect was arrested Monday morning, according to OPD.
New video taken by Alyssa Tavarez shows the intense moments when police were in the parking lot of Sedona Ranch Apartments sunday night. An officer with a long rifle stands guard by his patrol car, as lights shine bright on the third story balcony of one building.
Teylor Udy was in her apartment with her girlfriend when the situation unfolded.
“It sounded like crashing, I didn’t know what it was,” Udy said. “I thought something like fell off the building…It shook our apartment walls.”
Nearly a dozen evidence markers are at the apartment complex in Building 8 where Udy lives. Bullet holes mark the walls and two doors along the third floor stairwell.
“So, I shut the door, cause we didn’t know. My girlfriend was like, ‘Stay inside, you never know what happens,'” Udy recalls. “She was like, ‘I’m pretty sure it was gunshots.’ She’s heard gunshots. She’s from California, so she’s like, ‘I’m pretty sure that’s gunshots.'”
Teylor says one of the bullets hit the outside wall of her apartment. During the commotion, an officer knocked on her door and told her to stay put.
“It kind of scared us because we didn’t know that it had happened right here. We thought it was just out here,” Udy said. “But, when he told us there are literally shell casings all out here, it freaked us out. Like, it could have been us. We were in the bathroom not even 2 seconds before it happened and we have bullet indentations in the bathroom wall.”
One neighbor I spoke to over Facebook said he lives across the way in Building 7. He says he saw a person running away from the scene. He also tells me, he later learned one of his neighbors had a gun pointed at her by several people. He says he gave a statement to police.
A resident at Sedona Ranch Apartments shared with us a statement from the management team. It reads in part:
“Odessa police have informed the management staff that this does not appear to be a random act… the management team at Sedona Ranch is cooperating fully with the Odessa Police Department.”
