ECTOR COUNTY, Texas (Big 2/Fox 24) – 144 new Coronavirus cases have been confirmed in Ector County, according to an update Wednesday afternoon.

The total case count now stands at 1,044, with 670 confirmed cases and 374 probable cases. The update comes as case numbers continue to surge across Texas.

Stats also show 1,526 tests are currently pending and 388 have recovered.

Mayor David Turner said Tuesday afternoon that he is concerned about the rapid growth and noted that if numbers continue to climb, it could force more closures from the Governor’s Office or state intervention.

To prevent this, the City of Odessa officially launched its first free testing event on Tuesday morning. Turner said more than 400 people appeared at the testing site and about half were sent away because there were only 200 tests available.

The City said they are working on getting more test kits for future events. The second free testing event will take place Thursday morning at Woodson Park.

Meanwhile, Ector County is also hosting free testing. Their next testing event will take place Thursday at the South Ector County Volunteer Fire Department.
