The Holy Redeemer Catholic Church community is in recovery after the tragic loss of three members. This all stems after they were killed in a crash Monday night. This Thursday, they gathered by the hundreds to support the family.
“The granddaughter sang in the choir, and the grandson was an altar server here,” says Angie Garcia, a friend of the family. “They were always here in church, so I know they are going to be missed.”
And the way they did it was by a fundraiser. The church sold different kinds of food with all proceeds going to the family.
“It’s not really the importance of raising money,” says Garcia. “I think it’s more important that the Delagarza family knows that we are supporting them that we are a community. That we are here for them.”
And that support definitely showed, as servers were selling plates of food as quickly as they were making them.
“I know they had a thousand plates pre-sold. So that is enormous itself,” says Tammie Castillo, a volunteer at the fundraiser.
The tragic loss Monday showed the many dangers of what illegal street racing can do. But for the community of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, it’s been a time of support and remembrance.
“I’ve known Celi since high school. And you know I can still in my mind see her face and her happy smile,” says Garcia. “And to me that is what they would want us to do is to be here and comfort her grandparents.”
