Kermit PD, Winkler County Sheriff’s deputies find 12 illegal migrants during traffic stop

KERMIT, Texas (Nexstar)- The Kermit Police Department and the Winkler County Sheriff’s Office found 12 illegal migrants Thursday morning during a traffic stop. 

Kermit Police pulled over a grey Ford truck for speeding in the 100 block of West Austin. 

During the stop, two Winkler County deputies came to assist. 

Six illegal migrants were found in the cab of the truck, another six were found hidden in the bed of the truck under the bed cover. 

All 12 were arrested and taken to the Winkler County Detention Center before being released into the custody of Homeland Security and the US Border Patrol. 

WCSO says this is the third time this year they have made an arrest for human smuggling.
