Multiple first responders scaled the Wilco Building five times this Saturday in honor of those lost in 9/11.
Around their necks, the name of a first responder who passed away that day in 2001.
In total, 343 firefighters died that day, another 71 police officers also lost their lives. A number that local first responders take to heart.
“It sets you back in place and makes you realize that what you do, you are doing it for a reason,” said Captain Greg Wells of the Midland Fire Department. “You are not guaranteed another day in life regardless of what you are doing. But when you go to work in the morning, you never know. It could be a normal call and you could never come home again.”
This is the second time the city of Midland has held a memorial stair climb. Other cities across the state and the country hold them as well.
