MIDLAND, Texas (Nexstar) – A major artery between Odessa and Midland is getting a face-lift.

40 miles along I-20 will be under construction. Right now, by the Midland International Air and Space Port, a new project is already in the works.

County Road 1250 is just one of several roads getting a 4 point interchange to connect to I-20. Other roads include Faudree Road, CR 1300, CR 1260, and CR 1140.

This will allow drivers along the frontage road to easily access the highway, and drivers coming from the highway to access businesses along the road.

“You’ll see more development out there, and frankly, the price of the property because of the improved access is going to go up. So, a lot of the landowners out there will probably benefit long-term, pretty significantly,” said James Beauchamp, President of the Midland-Odessa Transportation Alliance.

This new construction means the interstate will now go over all the intersecting roads. But this is just one of several phases. Others include reconstructing the Midkiff interchange in Midland to reduce congestion, adding an additional lane on I-20 heading Eastbound and Westbound, and turning several two-way frontage roads to one-way.

“If people are a little bit inconvenienced, that’s a pain. We don’t like that. But if they don’t have access, that’s deadly to their business and their livelihoods,” Beauchamp said.

Construction on I-20 will last about 10 years altogether.
