The GROW Texas fund is moving forward after it was passed through the House Appropriations Committee on Wednesday.

According to a release from Rep. Brooks Landgraf’s House Bill 2154 unanimously passed through the committee.

The GROW Texas fund aims to earmark oil and gas revenue and send it back to the areas in which it was generated for road improvements, public safety enhancements and education.

“I’m grateful to my colleagues on the House Appropriations Committee who clearly agree that we need to reinvest in energy producing areas in order to keep Texas strong,” Landgraf said. “I’m proud of the growing support from across the state.”

The bill was authored by Reps. Landgraf and Tom Craddick.

Both representatives stress that HB 2154 would not raise or create taxes, but instead secure existing state revenue paid by oil and gas producers through severance taxes for reinvestment.
