Three new cases of COVID-19 confirmed in Midland; Confirmed cases at Midland nursing home

MIDLAND, Texas (Big 2/Fox 24) – The City of Midland Health Department has confirmed three new cases of COVID-19 in Midland County. That brings the total case count to 35.

The 33rd case is a woman in her 70’s who was tested by Midland Health. She is currently being treated at the hospital. She was transported from the Midland Medical Lodge on April 10th. The source of exposure is known contact.

The 34th case is a woman in her 30’s who was tested by Midland Health. She is currently at the hospital. She was admitted on April 12. The source of exposure is contact to a known case. The last day she worked at Midland Medical Lodge was March 29th.

The 35th case is a woman in her 80’s who was tested by Midland Heath. She is being treated at the hospital. She was taken from Midland Medical Lodge on April 13. The source of exposure is contact to a known case.

The City of Midland Health Department confirmed today that four administrative employees of Midland Medical Lodge are among the 35 confirmed cases in Midland.

The Midland Medical Lodge has been following the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services Guidelines for a nursing facility. The facility has been fully cooperating with the City of Midland Health Department and state regulatory agencies.

The medical directors on-site are screening residents every four hours and plan to test all that are symptomatic. The facility has created a licensed isolation wing to house any symptomatic residents.

The administrative staff members who have tested positive are isolating at home. They will not return to work at the facility until they are released by the City of Midland Health Department.

Midland Medical Lodge implemented the use of masks and gloves for resident contact on March 30, 2020. All staff has been wearing full personal protective equipment for approximately two weeks. Midland Medical Lodge has not allowed any visitors since mid-March.
