Gov. Greg Abbott is sending more troops to assist with hurricane relief.
A release from the Governor’s Office says the request would for additional aid would push the response numbers to 24,000.
“The increase in National Guard troops will ensure Texas has the necessary resources to respond to ongoing challenges from Hurricane Harvey,” Abbott said in a statement. “There are many challenges that remain in the wake of this devastating Hurricane, but we will make sure we have the adequate resources on the ground to respond. I want to thank my fellow Governors from across the country who are stepping up to help Texas in our time of need.”
The Texas National Guard is already at full deployment per the Governor’s request.
The state is also coordinating with the U.S. Military who have activated resources to assist.
