GOOD NEWS: Adopt a Grandparent for Christmas

Imagine being invited to a Christmas party and then showered with gifts! That was the case for 120 residents at Madison Medical Resort in Odessa. As it turns out, Christmas wish lists do come true at the Resort.

“To adopt a Grandparent, it just means that you are going to make somebody’s day.  You’re going to get them socks they’ve always wanted or warm color make-up they want,” explains Volunteer Alex Luna.

Luna helped to hand out gifts to the residents and Madison Medical Resort’s Christmas Party, making sure no one was forgotten.

Prior to the party, Activities Director Elizabeth Escobar came up with an “Adopt a Grandparent” idea.

“On the back of the ornaments has a wish list for each resident, they got to tell us 3 things they would like for Christmas,” explains Escobar.

The ornaments were then hung up on a Christmas tree, inviting the staff and the community to fulfill a wish list.

“All the ornaments are gone, they’ve all been adopted.  That was a big blessing for us,” says Escobar.

120 residents aka “Grandparents” were all adopted!

While most of the wish lists were gift items, some Grandparents thought outside the box.

“Some were more particular, they wanted more bingo,” says Escobar.

One of those residents, Pamela Davis, wished for peace on earth. And, after seeing all the work employees put into this Christmas party, Davis says her wish was already granted!

“Places like this take a real interest in making sure the residents feel like they are family,” says Davis.

Madison Medical Resort is actually a rehab center, so next year they will host another Christmas Party, but the grandparents up for adoption will be different!
