Calling all small business owners. There’s a free program here in the Permian Basin that could help your sales skyrocket!
UTPB has launched a program called “Small Biz.Xlr8” that will assist roughly 30 businesses through a ten-week crash course on all things business.
“The companies are going to have to put in some work,” says Taylor Novak, UTPB Blackstone LaunchPad Campus Director and Entrepreneurship Coordinator. “But I definitely think they’ll get some results out of it.”
The program is a partnership with UT Austin and IC² Institute. It ran in Austin the past few years and on average companies that participated gained two employees.
“Net sales were up about 40%,” says Novak.
The online program provides mentorship and expertise from local business experts that will share tips to success. Two of the most critical pieces are marketing and customer discovery.
“They found a lot of the times, business owners have a preconceived notion of what their customer was and what they wanted,” says Novak. “It was completely opposite when they did market research”
The accelerator program is primarily for any already existing business in any industry. Some startups may be accepted as well. Not only will small business owners get tips for success, but they’ll be able to grow their business network.
“Business can feel like they’re out on an island a lot of the time,” says Novak. “We want to make sure we’re connecting them with a good network of other small businesses so they can relate ,throw ideas off of each other, share what has worked and hasn’t worked.”
Applications for the program are due April 29th. Businesses will be selected May 7th.
