It’s not a color you’ll see a lot in the oilfield. However soon enough, there will be a splash of pink right in between Midland and Odessa. All in the form of a frac pump.
“Honestly the idea came from watching the NFL, you know every year they have the pink cleats and they really get behind it,” says Joshua Webb, the owner of Webb Tex and Frac Pump Rentals. “So I had just this idea of how can we do that in the oil industry.”
For this Frac Pump, it’s color isn’t the only thing that makes it stand out.
“A portion of the proceeds are going to Pink the Basin off of that,” says Bridgette Meyers, the executive director of Pink the Basin. “So right now we are at about 45 thousand dollars raised with the sponsors and what you will see behind us.”
Those thousands of dollars are put towards multiple areas including breast cancer awareness.
“Last night they told us the only cure is pre-detection, and that will help ladies that can’t afford that,” says Webb.
As for Pink the Basin, they say that the oilfield has always been a supporter of their cause. And that this is just another way to show it.
“We are in West Texas, and oil drives everything else for us. So for us we always have had huge supporters in the oilfield,” says Meyer.
So if you pass by this frac pump, it’s bright color might be the first thing to catch your eye. However it’s meaning, is what’s truly important.
“One out of five women over the age of 40 gets a mammogram, and for us that is terrible,” says Meyers. “So we need to change that statistic, and this money will help us do that.”
