ODESSA, Texas (ABC Big 2/Fox 24) – Medical Center Hospital is getting ready for its mass vaccination clinic this weekend Ratliff Stadium. MCH said it’s glad it got to do a test run on Friday and they want everyone who plans to get their shots this Sunday to make sure they are registered.
“We’re excited about this. We’re excited about the opportunities here to vaccinate as many people as we can,” said Incident Commander Rodd Huber.
As final preparations are made at Ratliff Stadium, organizers are asking everyone to be patient.
“We’re here to serve you. We are serving a lot of people,” Huber said. “We’ll try to take care of as many people as we can.”
Russell Tippin, CEO of Medical Center Hospital, said more than 11,000 people have registered and that will make the process go smoother.
“We had a car show up with five people in it. One person was pre-registered in it, which means, that whole care had to go through the non-registered so if you’re bringing people with you and you are pre-registered and they’re not, you’re going in the non-registration line,” Tippin said.
Tippin wants everyone who come gets a shot to be ready.
“When you get out here and get in the line, we’re going to tell you to roll your sleeve up. Or, if you have a long sleeve shirt on we’re going to ask you to get your arm out and be ready so you’re not having to do that at the shot station,” Tippin said.
And just because the drive thru clinic opens on Sunday, doesn’t mean it’s the only day to get a shot.
“For our days of operation we’re looking at starting on Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday. So, if you can’t make it Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, show up Wednesday, Thursday, Friday,” said Huber.
As the vaccination process gets underway there’s a lot of hope for the future.
“This is the first step the first big major part of the fight in getting over this. We had the mask, we had all the testing, and now we have the sword to kill this thing,” Tippin said.
The drive-thru clinic will start this Sunday at 9 AM. MCH is also asking people not to line at Ratliff Stadium before then.
