Eight West Texas counties listed as top oil producing counties in state

Several West Texas counties were among the top oil producing counties in the state in March, preliminary reports from the Railroad Commission of Texas show. 

Midland came in at the top of the list, producing nearly 9 million barrels of oil in the month of March. 

Reeves, Loving, Upton, Martin, Andrews, Howard and Reagan also cracked the top 10, as per the RRC. 

Reeves, Loving and Midland Counties were also counted among the top 10 gas producing counties in the state during the same time period. 

The following is a release from the Railroad Commission of Texas: 

Production for March 2018 as reported to the Railroad Commission of Texas (Commission) is 86,436,682 barrels of crude oil and 577,823,501 mcf (thousand cubic feet) of total gas from oil and gas wells.

These preliminary figures are based on production volumes reported by operators and will be updated as late and corrected production reports are received.

Production reported to the Commission for March 2017, was: 77,262,815 barrels of crude oil preliminarily, updated to a current figure of 90,033,198 barrels; and 608,006,175 mcf of total gas preliminarily, updated to a current figure of 663,678,736 mcf.

The Commission reports that from April 2017 to March 2018, total Texas reported production was 1.081 billion barrels of crude oil and 7.8 trillion cubic feet of total gas.

Crude oil production reported by the Commission is limited to oil produced from oil leases and does not include condensate, which is reported separately by the Commission.

Texas preliminary March 2018 crude oil production averaged 2,788,280 barrels daily, compared to the 2,492,349 barrels daily average of March 2017.

Texas preliminary March 2018 total gas production averaged 18,639,468 mcf a day, compared to the 19,613,102 mcf daily average of March 2017.

Texas production in March 2018 came from 180,368 oil wells and 91,195 gas wells.
