The Ector County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents of another scam call making the rounds.

Officials say someone is calling residents and claiming to be Sgt. Kyle Caswell with the Ector County Sheriff’s Office.

The caller says on the phone they are calling about a failure to appear for jury duty and instructs the victim to purchase gift cards for specific amounts and call back with the ID number on the card, according to a release.

Officials with the ECSO say the caller is using what is known as a “drop phone” which is disposable and almost impossible to trace.

Thus, they are warning residents that the ECSO does not conduct business this way and anyone who receives this call should hang up and not call back.
