ODESSA, Texas (Big 2/Fox 24) – From coming up with different learning options to tackling COVID-19 testing and staffing. Educators around Texas have had a year like no other.
The state now helping school district’s with one of those problems, testing.
Dr. Scott Muri, the ECISD Superintendent said, “It’s a new test that Texas has been utilizing, actually just received, a little over a month ago.”
Starting next week ECISD will have rapid tests available for their staff members. Any adult who becomes symptomatic at work can take a self-administered COVID-19 test and will get their results in 3 to 15 minutes.
“We will provide at no cost to that staff member an opportunity for them to be tested and then we will find out those results and we will be able to take quick action with that individual. Whether it’s quarantining that individual if they are positive and then cleaning the area where that individual may have been,” said Muri.
According to Muri, the test has a 97% accuracy rate. “It will allow us to be a bit more responsive to the growing concerns that we have as a community in regards to COVID-19,” he said.
After a week of trying the new testing systems with adults they will start testing students.
“The test is self-administered for adults and children that are at the high school level. For children at the elementary and middle school level we will have a nurse administer those tests,” said the Superintendent.
Before any students are tested there will be information sent out to parents to make sure they are aware of the changes.
